Improving bite relationships in growing patients offers more choices for correction than in adult patients due to the ability to modify growth with orthodontic treatment.
After orthodontic treatment is completed, retainers are provided for patients to preserve the outcome of treatment. Retainers work best when worn part-time for as long as you desire to preserve your excellent orthodontic results! Teeth are an adjustable system of our body and are subject to the changes related to our lifestyles and the changes aging imposes upon our bodies.
For patients who have an interest in improving only their front teeth alignment, limited treatment is an option. Limited treatment maintains the existing bite relationships while improving the alignment of the front teeth. Limited treatment times can range from a few months to a year.
Whenever possible, limited treatment will be offered as a choice.
On occasion, previous orthodontic patients will inform us their teeth are no longer straight since they stopped wearing their retainers. They are hoping for a simple solution to “touch up” their tooth alignment. Limited treatment is ideal for these patients.
If a person stops wearing retainers, changes to the teeth are inevitable due to lifestyle choices, wear of teeth, and aging. Increasing crowding of the lower/upper front teeth is common when retainers are discontinued. The ability to “tune up” the alignment with limited treatment depends on several factors. To answer this question with accuracy, we will digitally simulate the specific tooth movements for someone to determine if limited treatment can be successful.
At Orthodontic Specialists, limited treatment is almost exclusively performed with Invisalign appliances. This technique allows us to control which teeth move and which teeth do not. In this way, only the problematic teeth and/or a few adjacent teeth are corrected. In contrast, all teeth that have braces on them will move and may complicate the desired correction additionally.

We can test the Invisalign process out for your teen before commiting to Invisalign treatment. We will make a set of “test aligners” for your child to tryout for two weeks prior to make a final decsion. In this way, your teen will have a clear idea of what to expect and can make the best choice for them.
Yes! We are committed to ensuring that everyone can afford a beautiful smile to enhance their self-image. To make it more convenient for our patients, we provide a monthly payment plan with 0% interest, though we do require an initial down payment to begin treatment. Our treatment coordinators can help you with the financial details. We also offer Care Credit to help you with your payment plans. For those who are able to pay for their treatment in full, you will be eligible for a 5% discount. Additionally, we offer discounted rates for multiple family members so that everyone can benefit from our services.
This question requires a little research for each family by our office. Some dental insurances will pay a single lifetime benefit towards orthodontic braces or Invisalign for each child or family member covered whether the orthodontist is “in” or “out of network”. It’s important to note that insurance plans vary, but our team is happy to verify the specifics of your orthodontic benefit. We also accept Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA) insurance benefits to help defray the cost of braces.
You may be aware of companies (called “DIY” for do it yourself) that mail aligners to your home without an in-office visit with a doctor. You may have also heard some unfortunate stories, blog articles, or watched YouTube videos describing negative consequences of “DIY” types of orthodontic treatment. For example, if only upper teeth are moved, overbite may increase. Further, if only the lower teeth are moved, the bite relationships may be altered so that only front teeth touch on closure.
